The Union Island gecko<\/strong>, otherwise known as the Grenadines clawed gecko<\/strong> (Gonatodes daudini), is only known to live in one 50 hectare area of forest.<\/p> First described scientifically in 2005, it rapidly became a victim of poaching for the pet trade and the population declined by 80% over the next decade-ish.<\/p> Poaching, the destruction of their habitat by collectors hunting them, and not helped by the changing global climate challenges, has resulted in these little fellows being listed on the Appendix 1 of CITES. Meaning they are critically endangered.<\/p> Little they are too!
